Smash Burgers

I know what your thinking, this is Nick DiGiovanni’s recipe. Yet, I was inspired by it. Yes, definitely inspired.

*Be sure you make this in a kitchen with lots of windows to open.

Ingredients:

-1 lb. of ground beef (lean preferred)

-8 hamburger buns (I used Martins Potato Rolls)

-Salt

-Pepper

-Garlic Powder

-2 tsp of butter

-Cheddar Cheese (optional)

-Your choice of toppings and sauce ( I used Pickles, Lettuce, and Ketchup)

Steps:

Step #1: To a medium bowl, add the ground beef, a sprinkle of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until fully combined. With your hands, shape balls that are around 8 oz.

Step #2: Heat a stainless steel pan until screeching hot without any oil. When ready, place a meatball down in the hot pan. Then, smash with a small saucepan and a sheet of parchment paper. The paper goes in between the meat and the saucepan.

Step #3: Depending on how thick the patty is, the cooking time can range from 30 seconds to about a minute. The patty will stick to the pan to develop the crust, so be sure to have a sturdy spatula. If going to add cheese, place one slice on top right after flipped.

Step #4: Once all patties are cooked, place them on a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm. In the same pan, toast your buns by spreading butter on the inside then putting them face down in the pan. If you prefer your buns not toasted, skip this step. I favor a golden toasted bun for my burger.

Step #5: To assemble, place your bun, sauce, the patty, pickles, and lettuce. These toppings are my favorite! Enjoy💙
